About Us/Contact

Kai Boardriding Company began in 2008 when when a group of international surfers decided to set up shop in the quiet, wave rich Central Moroccan town of Dar Bouazza. Located near the bustling city and international airport of Casablanca, they were able to supply locally made surfboards to the larger Moroccan surf population. The business has changed hands several times in it’s history, but has constantly been improving.

I (Scott Romig) had the opportunity to learn shaping and glassing from Mark Bale, the previous owner. I hope to continue to steer Kai Boardriding Co forward in quality of shapes and finishing. I am personally inspired by alternative performance boards; I get excited about the idea of bringing the sensations that high level surfers experience (speed, power, etc) to intermediate surfers through innovative design. Asymmetrical outlines, non-standard bottom contours, and other design elements can noticeably  improve the performance of “average” surfers. I am also competent in shaping more standardized short board and fish/twins. I love interacting directly with clients to create a custom tailored board.

All along the way Kai Boardriding Co has had a strong commitment to serving not only the surf community of Morocco, but also those in need locally. Since the beginning of Kai shapes this value has been at the core of this business and continues on through various efforts today.

I invite you to come see for yourself what has been built in this beautiful and unique country. Come check out our stock boards, or let’s work together to make your next custom handshape,  or just come share some waves with us in Morocco.
