The Fatback

Description

One of our favorite boards, named after one of our favorite snacks, the Fatback is our hybrid egg/fish/shortboard. A ridiculously good time in less powerful or smaller surf, it will keep you smiling when the surf is small and gutless or big and fat.

A very round, eggy outline is pulled in to a pointed, almost shortboard nose. The volume is carried out to rails, and the single to double concave is quite shallow. This all leads to the boards feeling like it is more on top of the water than down in it, making it better suited for pivoty turns from the tail/fins and less for aggressive rail turns. Very low rocker throughout keeps you planing on mushy sections and gives you ridiculous speed on command.

Glassed with 4oz on the bottom and 6+4oz on the deck, the board is light, but not so light that it can’t handle a little surface chop. We usually install either thruster or 5-fin set ups for this board and highly recommend giving the Futures AM-Ts a go in this board. They seem to fit perfectly with its hybrid feel.
